The Hidden Work of the Soil: What Farming Teaches About Growth

On the farm, the most important part of growth is the part we cannot see. Seeds spend days — sometimes weeks — beneath the soil, unseen to the eye. Yet in that hidden place, something powerful is happening. Roots are stretching, life is forming, and preparation for the harvest is underway.

Life works the same way. Much of our progress happens in the hidden seasons — when no one is clapping, no one is watching, and results aren’t yet visible. But just like the soil hides the seed, God often hides our growth until the right time.

Here are three lessons the soil has taught me:

  1. Unseen growth is still growth. 🌱
Just because others can’t see it doesn’t mean nothing is happening.
  2. Depth comes before height. 🌿
A plant must grow roots downward before it can grow upward. In life, character must grow before success can last.
  3. The hidden season is preparation. ☀️
What happens underground ensures the harvest above ground. In the same way, God uses hidden seasons to prepare us for greater fruitfulness.

So if you feel unseen today, remember the soil. Seeds don’t stay buried forever. In due time, what’s been growing in the dark will break forth into the light. 🌾
